The WordCamp UK 2008 link love plugin will automatically add a banner image to your website to help spread the word about WordCamp UK 2008 - make sure nobody misses out on the biggest WordPress event to hit the UK this year!
You don’t have to alter your theme’s template files or CSS - just upload, login, activate the plugin and go to the options page (Settings=>WordCampUK2008). Here you can control:
- Which banner image is used - choose between 7 banner images - 3 are ‘left’ and ‘right versions, 1 is retangular so can be positioned either left or right to suit your site.
- The position in your site, either top left or top right.
- Where the link it leads to when clicked - you may either choose WordCamp UK Central (http://uk.wordcamp.org/), the WordCamp UK blog (http://wordcampuk.wp-cms.com/), or the wiki (http://wiki.wordcampuk.tonyscott.org.uk/)
- Default options when you install it are Banner 1, top left, WordCamp UK Central.

How to install
Installing this plugin is easy, it should be pretty much a click and go!
1. Download the compressed .zip file, and decompress it. You’ll end up with a folder called ‘wordcampuk08_linklove’, inside there will be:
- A folder called ‘banners’
- wordcampuk2008_linklove1.php
- readme.txt
2. UPLOAD THE ENTIRE FOLDER called ‘wordcampuk08_linklove’ (NOT just wordcampuk2008_linklove1.php) to your plugins folder on your server (usually wp-content/plugins - may be different in WordPress 2.6+).
3. Login to your site as an administrator level user and activate the plugin on the ‘Plugins’ page.
4. Go in ‘Settings->WordCampUK2008′ and configure it to suit your site.
5. Check your website, site back and feel good for the rest of the week because your sharing some link love!
Troubleshooting
There are a couple of main reasons why the banners may not display automatically on your WordPress site:
1) To allow automatic insertion, your theme must have the PHP code “wp_head();” and “wp_footer();” - 99% of themes have this. “wp_head();” is generally in the header.php template file and “wp_footer();” is, you guessed it, in the footer.php template file within your theme folder. If the banners don’t display, activate the default theme - this will have the code in mentioned above and the banners should display.
2) Ensure you have uploaded the WHOLE FOLDER called ‘wordcampuk08_linklove’, including the ‘banners’ folder - this contains all the images, so if it’s not uploaded the banners won’t display! The path should be accessible as: /plugins/wordcampuk08_linklove/banners/

For those of you that would just like to use the banner images in your own layout - simply download the plugin and take a look in the ‘banners’ folder. It contains all the banners (suprise, suprise!). The easiest way to deploy this is to use the plugin though, as it automatically inserts it into your site without any code modifications!
There are lots of other little ways you can help spread the word about WordCamp UK - take a look at this page on the Wiki and every little bit you do will help ensure that EVERY WordPress user in the UK knows about WordCamp UK 2008!
